World Languages

The World Languages Department offers a program of study in French, Spanish, and Mandarin. The new global economy has forced us to realize that we need to prepare our young people to face a fast-changing, technological, sophisticated, and politically complex world, a world that speaks many languages. The aim is to prepare our young people to continue this long-term activity at the college level, as well as in many jobs not requiring a college degree. The five Cs of our National World Language Standards will be the driving force behind all instruction in our language classes: Communication, Culture, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. These principles will help our students truly connect to the language they are learning. A course on Italian, Portuguese or Spanish shall be offered whenever twenty high school students shall request such a course (16-22-8 General Laws of R.I.).

Courses Offered:

  • French 1-5
  • Spanish 1-4
  • AP Spanish
  • Spanish for Business
  • Spanish for Health Care
  • Mandarin Chinese 1-3
